Wonder #1: Why is Change so Hard?

I gaze around and see society changing so quickly that communication, access to knowledge, and social norms are not recognizable from my childhood. And then I look at school and mathematics instruction and wonder – why is change so hard to implement? It seems like every other sector just does it. Why not us?

Before change can become a reality, professional developers need to recognize and respect barriers to that change. Barriers to Educational Change are lack of trusting relationships, knowing-doing gap, comparative isolation of teachers, lack of trusting relationships, the great uncertainty of what education and society will be in the future, and teacher identify. These barriers, if not addressed, threaten any professional development and growth initiative.
